Prac 8 reflections

We did quite a few things today and more importantly, had a lot of fun along the way. At the start, we formed into groups of four and discussed the benefits and downsides of youtube. The three questions that we discussed were:

  1. What are the factors that lead to the extreme popularity of YouTube, especially with keen competition from other social network services like Wiki, Blogs and Facebook.
  2. The article discusses some downsides to YouTube. How would you deal with these issues?
  3. What would be the future direction for YouTube?. Refer to the sections “Where is it going?” and “What are the implications for teaching and learning” for some ideas.

We discussed the answers to these questions and then went to the other group to add more to what they had already though of. After which, both groups shared their results.

After lunch, we went to talkingcock.com and surfed the website. We then split into pairs to work on the mini project ; we were supposed to comment and evaluate the website according to the perspective of either the prime minister of Singapore, a Singaporean or a foreign worker/student studying in Singapore.

Along the way however, we also watched some funny videos on Singapore like "talking cock in parliment". We also had a fun time presenting our results in different accents.

Overall, I learnt that we take many websites for granted and do not evaluate them properly. By learning of the need to evaluate the websites to determine if I should use it, I will be able to increase my work's quality in the future.
